Tie One On For Safety!

madd_toofsAccording to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), 891 people lost their lives due drunk driving accidents during last year’s holiday season. With statistics deeming the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day one of the most dangerous for America’s roads, it is important for individuals and communities to be aware of and help prevent drunk driving this holiday season.
Since 1986, MADD’s “Tie One On For Safety” campaign has been held from November 1st through December 31st each year. It asks people to display a MADD red ribbon in a visible location to serve as a reminder for others to drive sober and always designate a non-drinking driver.

Other ways to commit to the campaign this holiday season include:

  • Sharing the “Tie One On For Safety” message virtually on social media
  • Taking time before any upcoming celebrations to arrange a safe ride by designating a sober driver, volunteering to serve as a sober driver, and researching local cab companies and car services available to you
  • Modeling responsible driving for younger family members
  • Talking with younger family members about what to do if they suspect a driver they are supposed to ride with has been drinking
  • Practicing responsible holiday party hosting by following these tips
The DAPC urges you to stand behind this campaign and do your part to ensure that all of our community members have a safe and happy holiday season!
